Scars and Laser Treatments

Keloids, also known as keloid scars, are very noticeable and can seem hard to treat. Fortunately, here at Mederm Esthetics & Laser, we offer 2 upscale treatments that can go a long way in reducing the severity of their appearance. Read on to find out more about keloids, and how we can help you!

What is a Keloid?

When the body heals itself from a wound, it creates scar tissue as part of the normal healing process.  Scars and Laser Treatments A keloid forms when a wound is healed and there is an overgrowth of scar tissue, that extends beyond the borders of the wound site.

Keloids are usually raised above the rest of the skin, giving the appearance of a small bump. They can start out as red or purple and eventually fade to a lighter colour over time. They feel rubbery and hard and are usually shiny in appearance.

What Causes Keloids?

There is no real known cause for these scars. They usually occur after a trauma to a part of the body, such as a burn, boil, acne or from a body piercing. They can also occur after a surgical procedure such as a tummy tuck, c-section or a procedure to remove a mole.

Genetic factors, hormones, and a lowered immune system are factors that have been suspected in contributing to these scars.

Treatments That Can Help

We offer 2 treatments that will give you awesome results if you are sick of being embarrassed by your keloid scar.

Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing and Scar Removal

This revolutionary laser treatment offers a vast array of benefits and is a perfect solution for keloid scars. You will notice results in just one day!

This treatment will help to flatten the raised scar, as well as soften it. It will not remove the scar completely but treat it enough so that it is hardly noticeable. We recommend treating a keloid scar slowly through a series of treatments, rather than at once.

Fractional resurfacing is also wonderful for wrinkles, dark circles, stretch marks and melasma. It will improve the overall appearance of your skin with very obvious and beautiful results!

Laser Photo Rejuvenation

Notice how the color of your keloid scar makes it especially noticeable? Well, this treatment helps to lift out those red and pink pigments to fade the colour of your keloid and make it less obvious.

This treatment is an excellent alternative to surgery, with similar, fantastic results!

These treatments will go a long way towards treating your keloid scar and giving you back your confidence! At home, we recommend you keep your scar moisturized every day to keep it soft. This also helps professional treatments to work more effectively. A vitamin E oil is ideal, as it helps to keep your scar hydrated as well as helps to fade the pigments over time.
