home dermaroller

Many people prefer to do skincare treatments in the comfort of their own home and this is plausible with something called a home dermaroller. You can use a super easy and safe micro-needling roller for anti-aging treatments at home. But you might be wondering how to use one. As well, you want to make sure you are using it properly in order to achieve the radiant skin that you have been dreaming about.

It is evident that the current lockdown has been both a curse and a blessing for many people’s skin. What’s positive about the lockdown is that people can really work on their skin care issues such as acne and not have to worry about air pollution, dirt, and debris from daily commutes that can trigger acne. In addition, it gives you a chance to learn more about skincare. It will be like being your own skincare expert.

But in terms of the downside, the lockdown orders that many people cannot treat breakouts with treatments such as facials. Instead, there are at-home treatments such as dermarolling. In addition, there are so many other skincare issues that people need to treat that require going to a skincare clinic.

What is dermarolling?

This treatment uses a device that looks similar to a small paint roller. The roller is meant to be rolled across your skin. The roller is covered in small little needles that, when rolled over the face and neck, penetrate the skin.

This tricks the skin into something called regeneration mode, since it believes it has been damaged. Then, it constructs little channels into your skin’s layers so that the products you use on your skin will be able to penetrate deeper.

The handheld device can come off as intimidating since it contains rolling miniature needles that you are supposed to roll across your face. But you shouldn’t be scared as doing this is supposed to help treat acne scarring and even out your skin tone. Dermarolling also does so much more. But before using it, it is a good idea to do your research and speak to your skincare expert about it.

At-home dermarolling vs in-clinic dermarolling

The main distinction between at-home and in-clinic is in the needle length. Although the mode of treatment for skincare and professional needling techniques is almost the same, the course of action offers a distinct outcome. Dermarolling that is done in a clinic in clinic uses a much longer needle, and even though this also produces a micro-channel for successful product penetration, the aim is to produce trauma to the skin.

This trauma that occurs deep in the skin, produces healing to the affected area, which means activation of fibroblast and increased production of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. When it comes to at-home devices they usually do not contain longer than 1.5 mm of dermarolling needles, whereas in clinics they can go up to 8 mm.

Does derma rolling hurt?

This is completely contingent on the length of the needles on the dermaroller. At-home dermaroller needles are usually short, which means they don’t pierce the skin deep enough to injure it. But, anything over 1.5 mm tends to be painful, so skincare experts will usually apply a numbing cream on your face an hour before your treatment starts. You might also draw blood with the longer needles, but this is nothing to be weary or anxious about.
