5 Anti-Aging Tips

Summer is practically here and that means far more time spent outdoors. While we encourage getting some fresh air, we don’t encourage exposing your skin to the sun for long periods without SPF. The sun is one of the worst enemies when it comes to aging your skin.

But it’s not just the UV Rays that affect your skin. Read on to find out 5 ways you can protect your skin and prevent the signs of aging this Summer.

Apply SPF

We know we mentioned this above, but we can’t stress enough how important SPF is for a youthful complexion, and not just for your face! Age spots and wrinkled, sagging skin doesn’t just happen on the face, so be sure to apply SPF to all areas that will be exposed to the sun. We recommend a minimum SPF of 30.

Stay Hydrated

We all know the importance of drinking water, but it becomes even more important on those sweltering summer days. Dehydration can creep up on you, so the trick is to keep sipping on water throughout the day and not waiting until you feel thirsty. Apart from its health risks, dehydration takes a toll on your skin, giving it a dull, dry and flaky look, so drink up!

Take Off Your Makeup

We hope you take off all your makeup at night anyway, but it’s especially important during a hot summer. In the heat, our skin becomes oily and greasy and all this dirt builds up on the skin as the day goes on. At night you need to cleanse this dirt off your face, so that your skin can breathe while you sleep. By going to bed with your makeup on, you may break out as makeup can clog pores. Your skin will also dry out as you won’t be applying a moisturiser before bed, and dry skin is skin that ages the fastest, so take off your makeup and keep it hydrated!

Eat Your Antioxidants

The best way to fight off free radicals that contribute to aged skin, such as the sun and air pollution, is from the inside out. By loading up on skin-loving antioxidants, such as leafy greens, colourful vegetables, fruits and berries, you give your skin the best chance to stay youthful, with a gorgeous radiant glow! Summer is also the perfect time to load up on these cooling, raw foods. So next time you head to the beach or pool, make sure to pick up a berry smoothie or a raw juice.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is essential to rid your skin of dead skin cells and allow the new skin underneath to shine through. This not only makes for a glowing and radiant complexion, but by removing these dead skin cells, any products you apply to your skin will absorb better. So any anti-aging products, such as serums, masks or intense moisturisers will work far better and do what they are supposed to do.

We hope these tips help you to look and feel confident this summer. At Md Esthetics Clinic we offer a range of anti-aging services, such as microdermabrasion and skin peels to rejuvenate, deeply exfoliate and refine your skin. Your skin will shine and you will feel wonderful!
